In the spirit of a navigating a busy schedule, I'm going to keep this short and sweet. This week I was given the opportunity to exercise my patience, flexibility, and ability to balance life with running. It was not always pretty, perfect, or easy, but I do think that it was good for me. Also, a tip for anyone out there who is thinking about training for a marathon. Maybe try to avoid scheduling multiple remodelling projects during the most important weeks of your training. Just a thought, from one friend to another.

Enjoy this week's training recap below! And be sure to head on over to @imhaileymorgan on Instagram to see this week's Reel. There may even be a couple seconds of dog footage in it, which makes it worth the watch.

Best wishes!

Sunday - April 28th, 2024

Prescribed Workout: 5 miles @ easy pace (7:22-8:21/mi)

Distance: 5 miles

Time: 43:41

Avg. Pace: 8:43/mi

Route: outside

Rating: 3 out of 5

Summary: This wasn't the best run ever, but it was nice and relaxing. I didn't feel awesome today and you could say that I was a bit overwhelmed with house projects. I opted to push my long run to tomorrow in order to maximize the progress we could make on our remodel. This run was easy and hopefully will set me up for a successful long run workout tomorrow.

Monday - April 29th, 2024

Prescribed Workout: 20 mile threshold workout

Workout Description: 4mi easy + 4 x (3mi @ 6:47/mi + 1mi easy)

Distance: 20 miles

Time: 2:30:12

Avg. Pace: 7:31/mi

Location: treadmill

Rating: 4 out of 5

Summary: Today was a situation where the run was fantastic, but the situation surrounding this run kinda sucked. We were able to stabilize the treadmill where it lost the foot in order to make it operational once again. To be clear, I do not recommend that other people do this. I'm just being honest, this is what we did, but we did it as safely as we possibly could. Owing to the fact that the treadmill was being supported by something other than manufacturer-grade footings, there were many pauses in this run to check the safety and stability of our homemade support. All things were going really well, my paces felt challenging but entirely within my ability. And then, tragedy struck, though admittedly I am using "tragedy" in the loosest sense of the word. At approximately 17.7 miles, the treadmill got unplugged accidentally. I'm not going to point any fingers. Someone had an "oopsie" and the treadmill stopped dead under my feet, all of my current data lost to the void. Luckily, I had a relatively good idea of what distance I was at, so I was able to complete my run, finishing it faster than how I started. Like I said, this run was great, but the circumstances surrounding it were questionable at best.

Here are my splits:

4mi: 8:34/mi

3mi: 6:49/mi

1mi: 8:34/mi

3mi: 6:49/mi

1mi: 8:34/mi

3mi: 6:49/mi

1mi: 8:34/mi

3mi: 6:49/mi for 1mi, 6:35/mi for 1mi, 6:31/mi for .25mi, 6:27/mi for .25mi, 6:22/mi for .25mi, 6:18/mi for .25mi

1mi: 8:34/mi

Tuesday - April 30th, 2024

Prescribed Workout: 5 miles @ easy pace (7:22-8:21/mi)

Distance: 5 miles

Time: 42:34

Avg. Pace: 8:28/mi

Route: outside + 1mi w/ Maple

Rating: 4 out of 5

Summary: This was a typical nice and easy post-long run five miler. Maple and I enjoyed being outside together and we tried to keep the pace controlled.

Wednesday - May 1st, 2024

Prescribed Workout: 10 mile @ easy pace (7:22-8:21/mi)

Distance: 10 miles

Time: 1:22:59

Avg. Pace: 8:17/mi

Location: outside + 2mi w/ Maple

Rating: 4 out of 5

Summary: I ran the first 8 miles of this by myself and enjoyed exploring my surroundings. I ran out to the train tracks, which is one of my favorite routes. It includes a mini foot bridge and views of beautiful farmland. As we've discussed, I'm totally obsessed with unique routes and gorgeous scenery, so this run ticked all of the boxes for me. I then picked up Maple for the final two miles and we enjoyed them together.

Thursday - May 2nd, 2024

Prescribed Workout: 15 mile threshold workout

Workout Description: 2mi wu + 3 x (2mi @ 6:41/mi w/ 400m jog + 1mi @ 6:30/mi w/ 800m jog) + 2mi cd

Distance: 15 miles

Time: 2:30:12

Avg. Pace: 7:31/mi

Location: treadmill

Rating: 4 out of 5

Summary: I came away from this run feeling really strong and confident in how my running has progressed over the past few months. All of the paces felt entirely within my control and I can't wait to see how these speed workouts impact me on race day.

House Projects

Overview

Training Phase: Competition Phase

Training Block: Peak Fitness

Total Distance: 55 miles

Summary: Overall, this week felt pretty good. It was a bit uncoventional, and definitely did not unfold in the way that I had originally planned. However, I do think that I did a decent job at navigating life and running simultaneously this week, with a bit of sacrifice on both ends.

Highs: 1) strong speed workout and long run threshold workout

Lows: 1) missing multiple runs this week, 2) scheduling issues

Things that went well: 1) finding a balance between life and running

Things that I will be altering in the future: 1) avoiding scheduling major life events during the peak weeks of a marathon training cycle

Rating:

Bop To The Top rating scale.
